Think Smart: A Handwritten Font for Editorial Creativity

It was a quiet afternoon when I sat down to redesign the header of a lifestyle blog. The previous font felt too formal, and the brand needed something more approachable, more personal. That’s when I stumbled upon Think Smart, a handwritten font from Script Amp that immediately caught my eye with its friendly, childlike charm.

A Font with Character

Think Smart is not your average typeface. It carries the warmth of a handwritten note, with gentle curves and an uneven rhythm that feels intentionally human. This font isn’t just quirky; it’s expressive, with a playful yet readable character that makes it stand out in editorial layouts. Its visual personality leans into the idea of creativity and casual communication, making it ideal for projects that want to feel approachable and inviting.

The font has a soft, organic feel, which can be particularly effective in content that aims to connect on a personal level. Whether used for pull quotes, section headers, or even cover titles, Think Smart adds a touch of authenticity that digital fonts often lack.

Real-World Applications

I tested Think Smart across several editorial formats. In a recipe ebook, it worked beautifully as the title font, giving the project a warm, home-cooked feel. When paired with a clean sans-serif font like Helvetica for body text, the contrast helped maintain readability while adding visual interest.

In a digital magazine layout, I used Think Smart for chapter openers and feature headlines. It brought a sense of fun without overwhelming the reader. The font’s irregularity added a dynamic rhythm to the page, helping guide attention through different sections.

For a coaching workbook, the font felt especially fitting. Used in headings and decorative accents, it supported the tone of empowerment and personal growth. However, I avoided using it for dense paragraphs, as its expressive nature could make long-form reading challenging.

Readability and Practical Use

While Think Smart excels in display settings, it’s important to consider its use in screen-based and print media. On mobile devices, the font remains legible but benefits from ample spacing and clear typography hierarchy. For PDF exports and print materials, it holds up well, though testing at smaller sizes is recommended.

This font is best suited for titles, subtitles, pull quotes, and decorative elements rather than body copy. It works particularly well in projects where the goal is to create a mood or evoke emotion—such as wedding guides, creative course PDFs, or branded newsletters.

Pairing and Licensing Considerations

When pairing Think Smart with other fonts, I found that combining it with a modern serif or clean sans-serif font created a balanced editorial look. For example, using it alongside Georgia for body text in a printable planner gave the design both structure and personality.

Before incorporating Think Smart into any commercial project, it’s essential to check the licensing terms. Ensure you have the right to use it in ebooks, templates, printables, or client publications. Also, confirm if the font includes alternates, ligatures, multilingual support, and the necessary file formats for your intended use.

As a designer, I appreciate how Think Smart brings a unique voice to editorial work. It supports brand identity by allowing creators to express their style through typography. Whether designing a newsletter header, a magazine cover, or a blog post, this font offers a fresh way to engage readers with a sense of playfulness and approachability.
